web 2.0

Graham Stanley presentation of web 2.0 for educators interested in language learning and emerging technologies.  He is talking about web tools and he says that there are many different tools on the web that can be used to motivate students to speak, read, listen, or write but  which of them should  we use? And How to get the most out of websites that can be easily used by any teacher to enhance the learning and practice of language either in a computer room or using a class set of laptops. There are examples of 21st century  language learners like Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, Video.  Safe video sharing sometimes when showing a Youtube  clip we might not want learners to see the other content on the side, so use a site such as Safeshare to only  show the video  we want them to see. We can also crop the videos before we show  them them, so this site can be used as a teaching aid too.

Why Blogs? Because A Blog is a contraction of the words web log. Blogs usually provide commentary or information on a particular issue, event or topic. A Blog is usually maintained by a single person  or a small group of contributors. Students to the blog can comment on the entries made of respond to comments made by other students or visitors.

Why Wikis? Because Wikis can also include images, sound  recordings and films. Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org) the free internet encyclopedia is the most well known wiki. A wiki can be open to a global audience or can be restricted to a select network or community. Wikis can cover a specific topic or subject area. Wikis also make it easy to search or browse for information.

Why Podcasting? Because Podcasting is a way of making audio or video files available on the internet  that can either be listened to or viewed on a pc or downloaded to a hand-held device such as an ipod or MP3  player. A podcast will be treated as a sound recording  (Audio podcasts). Podcasts may also include images  ,  including  powerpoint  presentation. If there is a script or lecture notes for the podcast, that will be protected as a literary work. There may be multiple layers of copyright in a podcast, depending on the content of the podcast. There will also be a separate copyright in the actual recording itself.
